Test 4 – Part 7 – 159

Questions 159-162 refer to the following report.

A lot of people want to go to New York. Perhaps it’s the city of idealists, but not if you’re thinking of altering your hotel reservations. It used to be that you could make a room reservation without paying or warranting it with your credit cards. Nowadays, most of the New York’s main hotels need a credit card number if you would like to reserve the room. These concern us all; nobody is exempted. Evidently, because it is hard to get occupancy in New York, hotels can manage to accommodate alarge number of people. It’s the hotels’ benefit since they can’t estimate how many persons are in fact going to get there, states a hotel industry spokesperson. But the clients are at a disadvantage; if they forget to cancel their reservations before the hotel’s cutoff date, they are going to be charged the rate of one night’s accommodation. Watch out for this policy to be adopted by other congested bistros and bars. New York’s most expensive Top-of-the-World Bistro, for example, requires groups of eight to ten to leave a credit card number, and pay $500 if they don’t come.
