Weekend Schedule The town of Irvingville was officially established by charter on August 20, 1878, and it’s time once again to commemorate this special occasion! Join in the fun with the activities below: Saturday. August 19 10 A.M. Floats, bands, and dancers will weave their way through town, starting at City Hall, passing the Sedillo Arena, and ending at Hollyhock Park. A map of the planned route can be downloaded from the city’s Web site. Mayor Ashley Martino will give a speech at the end of the parade route at approximately noon. Community groups may call Lydia Voorhees at 555- 0133 to be part of the parade. 11 A.M. Food booths will be operating in Hollyhock Park and the nearby – 7 P.M. Marquette Park. Sample exotic international cuisine as well as local favorites. 2 P.M. Show off your volleyball skills in this fun 3-on-3 tournament with four age categories. Visit the Irvingville Community Center to sign up. 6 P.M. Irving\川le’s first-ever Battle of the Bands at Marquette Park. Fill out a form at City Hall to enter your band. Sunday. August 20 10 A.M. Learn to make your very own acrylic painting with step-by-step instructions from local artist Rosita Beneventi. $15 for materials. Advanced registration is not required. 2 P.M. Bakers across Irvingville will bring in their finest pies and cakes, and the winner will receive a state-of-the-art oven from Fincham Appliances! Meet the candidates for the upcoming city council election as they’re interviewed by local reporter Violet Shaw on stage at Marquette Park. |
